Common Faults of Sewing Section in Apparel Industry

Garments Sewing Section:

Sewing section is the largest and the most important section in a garment. In this section, each and every sewing machine and jobs of machine operators should be checked in a regular basis for identifying, correcting and controlling of faults and performing quality of products. Today i am going to discuss about, common faults of sewing section in apparel industry.

Sewing Section Faults in Garments:

There is no hard and fast standard up to find out sewing faults. Those faults are depends on product price intended quality and available manpower. Various defects found in sewing sections. The following defects are identified and inspected in sewing section quality control

1. Sewing Defect:

  • Different types of needle damage such as breakage of yarn in fabric, yarn fraying, hole formation in fabric etc.
  • Skipped stitch, that is improper successive binding of upper and lower thread.
  • Thread breakage
  • Seam pucker
  • Wrong stitch density
  • Uneven stitch
  • Staggered stitch
  • Improper formed stitch
  • Oil spot or stain on garments.

2. Seaming Defect:

  • Wrong or improper seam line.
  • Unsecured stitch due t lack of back stitches.
  • Twisting.
  • Wrong matching of checks and stripes.
  • Not matching of seam.
  • Trapping of undesirable materials in seam.
  • Sewing without co-ordination of fabric face and back side.
  • Using of wrong stitch type or seam type.
  • Mismatching of sewing thread shade with fabric.

    Too tight and too loose stitch

3. Assembly Defects:

  • If finished components are not of proper size and shape.
  • If garment is of wrong size and shape.
  • If any specific part garment for garment design have not been used or wrong ticket number is used.
  • Any component is attached at wrong place without proper alignment e.g. button, hook etc.
  • Wrong placement of interlining.
  • Too tight or too loose or too creased lining.
  • Any part of garment gets creased or wrinkled causing odd looking appearance.
  • Shade variation within the cloth of garments.

    Shade variation

  • If the direction of the components of the garments is wrong.
  • Mismatching of trimming appearance with that of garments.
