Man-made fiber:
Man-made fiber is also known as synthetic or artificial fiber. This fiber’s raw material is synthetic, which is produced by the polymerization process. During the manufacturing process of man-made fiber, anyone can easily modify its properties and characteristics. But in natural fiber processing, it’s not possible. That’s why this fiber is called man-made fiber.
Uses of man-made fiber:
Different kinds of man-made fibers have particular uses in different kinds of textile products. Now, I am going to explain the uses of different kinds of man-made fibers such as
- Viscose
- Acetate
- Polyester
- Polyamide
- Acrylic
- Polyolefin
Uses of Man-mad Fiber
1. Viscose:
Viscose is used in power transmission belting, umbrella cloths & protective cloths, and sewing embroidery threads. It is also used in manufacturing hoses & plastic. Cotton is blended with viscose to reduce cost. Polyester is blended with viscose to make thermal dresses.
2. Acetate:
Acetate is used for making different types of bra, lingerie, gowns, underwear & ties for men’s wear, pajama, socks, sportswear, insulator for electrical wiring & coils, household fabrics such as drapery & upholstery fabrics.
3. Polyester:
Polyester fiber is widely used for apparel both 100% form & blended form with cotton, nylon, wool, rayon fiber, acetate, etc.. It is also used for making thermal underwear.
4. Polyamide:
Polyamide is used for parachute fabrics, cords & ropes. As nylon has excellent dimensional stability, these are used for ladies’ gloves, ladies’ hose, underwear, swimwear, and hosiery fabrics. It is also used for home furnishing in carpets. It is used inthe manufacturing of belts of various machines (Flat belt, V-belt), fishing nets, tire cords, filtering cloths, sewing threads, tow ropes.
5. Acrylic:
Acrylic is mainly used in sweaters, jerseys, knit outer wear fabrics & blankets. It is used as a blend component with cotton, viscose, wool fiber. It also used for making carpet due to good resiliency property. It is also popular in sportswear, ski cloths; children’s snow suits filter cloth, protective cloth, wigs.
6. Polyolefin:
Polyolefin is widely used in seat cover of car, outdoor furniture, weeding, carpet backing, ropes, twins, netting, sweater & sportswear.
