BGMEA and BKMEA:

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) is one of the biggest trade associations in the country on behalf of the readymade garment industry(RMG), mainly the woven garments, knitwear, and sweater sub-sectors. Starting its journey in 1983 today BGMEA takes care of an industry that is now at the backbone of Bangladesh’s economy.

Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers & Exporters Association, BKMEA; the other height Trade Body to represent exclusively the Knitwear Sector of Bangladesh stands out in the global panorama with a distinct identity and stature. BKMEA follows innovation and creativity so that the sector-based policy-making process becomes realistically and strategically perfect and gives off the result that expedites its developmental phase.

The activities of BGMEA and BKMEA in Bangladesh are given as follows-

1. Full form:

• BGMEA – Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers & Exports Association
• BKMEA – Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers & Exporters Association

2. Staffing:

• For BGMEA Protect and uphold the industry’s interest by aiding the formulation of government policies consistent with a congenial growth of the sector.
• For BKMEA Identifying and fulfilling talent needs (through recruitment, primarily) and Utilizing various recruitment technologies to acquire a high volume of applicants (and to filter based on experience
•  BGMEA protect the interests of its members and their employees by implementing legitimate rights and privileges for garment workers.
• For BKMEA Maintaining ethical hiring practices and aligning with the regulatory environment and writing employee contracts and negotiating salary and benefits.

3. Development:

• BGMEA it’s negotiated and consulted with foreign and local agencies to promote the garments sector in every possible field also BGMEA is going to launch a worker’s welfare committee in the factories. BGMEA is going to develop a central database system for garment workers, which will cover all workers’ information about the readymade garment sector.
• For BKMEA it helps to train and prepare new employees for their role providing training opportunities to keep employees up to date in their respective fields.

4. Safety and Health:

• BGMEA has introduced Service Books for each and every worker employed in the factories and also To keep the BGMEA factory’s child labor free through continued monitoring and also their employees by implementing legitimate rights and privileges for garments workers.
• BKMEA has to be ensuring the good health of Employees by giving them proper leisure time and giving release for days if the employee gets sick and providing medical assistance in the office

5. Employer and Secretariat Relations:

• BGMEA has ensured the minimum wage implementation to 99.49% of all factories and BMGEA has set up a Crisis Management Committee for emergencies. BGMEA provides scholarships to meritorious children of garment workers. Each year 2000 students getting scholarships at Dhaka and Chittagong.
• BKMEA has mediated disagreements between employees and employers and discussed employee rights with the board, management, and stakeholders and also considered claims of harassment and other workplace abuses.

6. Working Sector:

• BGMEA works for the garments sector.
• BKMEA works for the knitwear sector.

7. Capacity Building:

• BGMEA has capacity building of garments sector
• BKMEA has capacity building of knitwear sector.

8. Promotion and Development:

• BGMEA promotes the apparel market and developed this sector also.
• BKMEA promotes the knit product market and also developed this sector also.
